“A BIG THANK YOU”

"It was a wonderful surprise when it was announced that Hospitality and Hope was a short -  listed finalist in the Stoves Community Kitchens competition, given the large number of high quality and deserving charities from around the country which had entered the competition.

To win Silver and £3000 worth of appliances was a great achievement, although naturally we were disappointed to lose out on the top prize in what turned out to be a very exciting and nail - biting contest, particularly in the last 24 hours!

For 15 years Hospitality and Hope has been at the heart of the community in South Tyneside working at grassroots level to help homeless and deprived people in the borough.  Once again our wonderful volunteers and the local community have rallied round to support us, this time with their votes and we cannot thank them enough.

The charity has raised in excess of £400,000 over the past 30 months to buy and convert the building which will house our new Supported Living facility and our Community cafe so every pound counts. Not surprisingly the cost of extras can build up alarmingly so winning £3000 is not only a huge boost to our fundraising but is also a wonderful fillip to everyone working in the charity who can see the positive results of all their efforts.

We now have the exciting challenge of spending the prize money on appliances, which will be of enormous help to us as we fit out the kitchen in our new Community cafe. We will now work with our kitchen designer on choosing the appropriate appliances from the large Stoves range but we already have our eye on a Fridge / Freezer, a Dishwasher, a Microwave and a Range.  We only hope the £3000 will go far enough! "

Many thanks,

David Chapman -  Patron

South Shields FC to help good causes with over night sleep-out event

South Shields Football Club are hosting an over night sleep-out fundraiser at their Mariners Park ground, in Shaftesbury Avenue, on Saturday, February 11. Jon Shae and Barrie Smith are hoping supporters will join them for the charity sleep out. Funds will be raised at the event for two charities - Hospitality and Hope, and North East Athletic. Some of the Mariners’ first-team players have already agreed to take part, as have club staff.

The club is now asking supporters and members of the community to come forward to participate, too, with the hope being that they will secure sponsorship from family and friends. The funds raised will be split evenly between the two charities. Hopefully plenty of people will get involved and join us on the pitch Barrie Smith Hospitality and Hope is a South Shields-based organisation which helps those in need, including the homeless. It operates a soup kitchen and foodbank in the borough. North East Athletic is a sports club for people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in the region, some of whom are homeless.

The sleep-out will come just hours after Shields have taken on Chester-le-Street Town in a Northern League Division One match at Mariners Park. There will also be a bucket collection for the two charities at that game.

The event will start later that night, and continue through until about 7am on the Sunday at Mariners Park. Sponsorship forms will soon be available to pick up from the ground, while an online fundraising page will also be set up. All are welcome to attend on the night.
